Key Biblical References to Nephilim and the Giants:

  • Genesis 6:1-4: Mentions the Nephilim ("fallen ones") on the earth before the Flood, offspring of the "sons of God" and "daughters of men".

  • Numbers 13:32-33: Reports giants (Anakim) seen by Moses' spies in Canaan, explicitly calling them Nephilim.  "We were like grasshoppers to them" reported the Moses' spies.

  • Deuteronomy 2:10-11, 20-21: Describes the Rephaim, Anakim, and Emim as tall, strong people.

  • Deuteronomy 3:11: Mentions Og, king of Bashan, as the last of the remnant of the Rephaim.

  • 1 Samuel 17: Accounts for Goliath of Gath, a well-known giant.

  • 2 Samuel 21:15-22: Mentions 4 descendants of the giants (Rapha) in Gath killed by David's men.

  • 1 Chronicles 20:4-8: Reiterates the battle against the descendants of the giants.

Giants in the Bible (Nephilim and Anakim) went extinct in stages, with the pre-flood Nephilim largely wiped out by the Great Flood, while later descendants (like the Anakim and King Og) were gradually eliminated by the Israelites during their conquest of Canaan, with figures like Goliath being among the last remnants, ending around David's time.
