Frequently asked questions
General
Colorado’s weather is constantly changing and it does change quickly! We recommend light to medium jackets. Rain slickers may also be needed in the summer. Heavier jackets and stocking hats are recommended for the rest of the year. Sun protection, sunglasses, and a bottle of water per person are suggested, as well as any medication that you might need. No food, sodas, alcohol, or drugs allowed. Tennis shoes or boots are recommended, as we get out of the shuttle bus in rocky locations. We do not recommend flip-flops or sandals. And of course, don’t forget your camera. Yes, you may bring along your purse or day backpack, as long as it fits in your lap or under your feet.
We cannot accommodate luggage, large bags, sports gear, etc..
There charging stations throughout the bus for each set of seats to charge your devices. There are 2 high speed USB-C chargers and 1 USB-A charger to use but you must bring your own charging cord.
We are not responsible for lost or stolen items on or off the shuttle bus or during any time of the tour.
"Please keep in mind that we are exploring raw, outdoor terrain. Because lighting and weather change how these petrified remains look, we can't guarantee what you will see. All sales are final once the tour starts, and no refunds are given based on your personal sightings during the tour."
No, they are not. While our tours run throughout the year, we operate much like other seasonal tourism businesses in Colorado. Our guides are scheduled as tours are booked, rather than working guaranteed hours. They receive a base payment per tour, but—similar to professionals in service-based roles like servers or hairstylists—tips make up an important part of their overall earnings.
If you enjoyed your experience and feel your guide did a great job, tipping is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation. Most guests choose to tip between 10% and 20% of the tour price (before tax).
That said, tipping is completely optional. You’ll never be expected or pressured to leave a gratuity—though it is always appreciated.
If your experience didn’t meet expectations and you feel a tip wasn’t warranted, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out by email to share your feedback. Your input helps us address concerns and continue improving the quality of our tours.
At certain times of the year, roads and trails may be temporarily closed due to wet or snowy conditions in order to protect the landscape. As a result, tour routes may need to be modified based on current conditions.
Please note that cancellations made within 14 days of your scheduled tour, as well as no-shows on the day of the tour, are non-refundable. However, if we are required to cancel your tour due to severe weather, mechanical problems, or any other unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund.
Absolutely! Our tours run throughout the entire year and operate in a wide range of weather conditions—from warm, sunny days to cold and snowy ones. Of course, there are some conditions that will prevent us from doing tours because of the amount of snow we will receive on that day.
Our shuttle bus design is ideal for sightseeing and photography. We recommend coming prepared with layers such as jackets, along with sunglasses and sunscreen.
Not always. While we make every effort to follow the itineraries and schedules listed on our website, certain circumstances may require adjustments to departure times, tour duration, or return times.
These changes can be caused by a variety of factors, including weather or road conditions, staff availability, unexpected mechanical issues during a tour (such as a flat tire), city or county road closures and detours, etc...
We appreciate your patience and flexibility when these situations arise. To help ensure timely departures for all guests, we kindly ask that you arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled check-in time to confirm all signed waivers.
Each tour leaves from different locations. We will advise you depending upon each tour you choose as to which location you will park to take the tour. Before your scheduled tour, you must arrive 45 minutes before the tour starts. This is to ensure we have confirmed all signed waivers.
No. As all tours start in different location and it is impossible to go around to pick up people at different locations. We also do not have the ability to provide transportation to and from hotels, airports, or other cities or towns.
YES. Because there are only a certain amount of seats on the shuttle bus. Since we have to schedule tours and guides in advance, payment is required to make a reservation.
For groups of 9 guests or fewer, cancellations made more than 72 hours before the scheduled tour will receive a refund of the amount paid, minus a $20 cancellation fee per person. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the tour are non-refundable.
For groups of 10 or more, as well as custom tours, cancellations must be made more than 30 days in advance to receive a refund. In these cases, the refund will be issued minus a $20 cancellation fee per person. No refunds are available for cancellations made within 30 days of the tour date.
We are not responsible for breakdowns and if one occurs, we will offer a rain check on a tour good for 1 year to the date.
Guests are required to check in at least 45 minutes before the scheduled tour departure. Our tours depart at set times, and that window allows us to check in all guests, confirm signed waivers, and prepare vehicles for the day’s departures. Because of this, we must stay on schedule.
If you do not arrive at our office by the designated check-in time, your reservation will be forfeited and your seats will be released. Unfortunately, no refunds or rescheduling options are available for late arrivals or no-shows.
We know vacation schedules can feel flexible, but timely arrival is essential. Please plan ahead to ensure you don’t miss your tour.
As much as we love dogs, we do not allow them on our shuttle bus. Service dogs are an exception.
No. If your child requires a safety seat under Colorado State Law, you must provide and bring the seat with you. Parents or caregivers are fully responsible for installing and using child safety seats correctly and in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Our guides are not permitted to install child safety seats for guests. If you need to rent child or baby equipment, there are two rental companies located in Colorado Springs that can assist you.
Children and babies must be in required child safety seats , they cannot sit on the parents or caregivers lap while the shuttle bus is in motion.
Bringing a car seat for your child? The seat it occupies on the shuttle bus will need a standard ticket.
Yes, we strive to be as inclusive as possible and welcome guests with a wide range of needs. However, because of the design of our shuttle bus and the terrain involved, certain limitations do exist. Since you are most familiar with your own abilities and comfort level, we ask that you determine whether participating in a tour is appropriate and safe for you.
Guests who use mobility aids such as crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs may receive assistance entering and exiting the vehicle when feasible. Any assistance provided is at the discretion of the individual tour guide and will only be offered if it can be done safely for both the guest and our staff.
Please note that our vehicles have very limited space for storing or transporting large mobility devices. Foldable equipment can be helpful, and we strongly encourage you to contact us at the time of booking to discuss your specific situation so we can prepare accordingly.
Seat belts are required to be worn at all times while in our shuttle busses. If you have special seating or accessibility needs, it is important to notify us in advance so we have the opportunity to make any necessary arrangements.
For the safety and comfort of all guests, each passenger must have their own seat with a functioning seatbelt. If a guest’s size requires more than one seat to sit safely and comfortably, an additional ticket must be purchased. This ensures that everyone has proper access to a seatbelt and adequate space during the tour.
In many cases, yes—but the decision ultimately rests with you and your healthcare provider. Whether participation is appropriate depends on your individual circumstances, including how far along you are in a pregnancy or whether you have any medical conditions that could be affected by off-road travel.
Some of our shuttle bus tours take place on off-road dirt and rocky trails and can be bumpy at times. Tours typically last several hours. While bathroom stops are included, restrooms may not always be immediately accessible. Some routes are smoother than others, so if you’d like help selecting a tour or need more detailed information before booking, please give us a call at 719-654-7383.
We’ve welcomed a wide range of guests on our tours, including children in car seats and senior citizens. That being said, each guest must consider their own abilities and limitations and should only participate with their doctor’s approval for off-road tours.
Please also note that we operate in an ever-changing outdoor environment. Trail conditions can vary significantly from day to day due to weather, such as sudden storms that may leave rocks or debris on the roads. Many of the places we visit are located in rural areas that are rarely maintained, which adds to the rugged nature of the experience.
While many guests enjoy the adventure of the tour, it may not be suitable for everyone. If you have a bad back, neck issues, mobility limitations, an at-risk pregnancy, or other medical concerns, we strongly encourage you to consult your physician before booking. We are happy to take you on a tour—but the final decision is entirely yours and we are not held responsible if you have a prior medical condition and it is worsened by the tour.
Something to take into consideration is that some of our tours take place at almost 10,000 feet in elevation. Keeping that in mind, it is recommended to bring plenty of water and Walmart does sell cans of Oxygen for those that think they might need it.
All necessary liability waivers, NDA, and a video and audio recording consent and release agreement all need to be signed before you are allowed on the bus. If you did not arrive at least 45 minutes before the tour bus leaves to ensure all forms are correctly filled out, we are not responsible and there will not be a refund will not be given.
Yes, restroom stops are included on our tours. Please note, however, that since we operate off-road and visit rural locations, restroom facilities may be limited to porta-potties or vault toilets. These facilities typically do not have running water or hand-washing stations.
If limited amenities may be a concern, we suggest bringing items such as hand sanitizer or wipes. While park services usually keep restrooms supplied with toilet paper, it’s always a good idea to carry tissues in a purse or day pack as a back up.
Colorado weather likes to keep things interesting—sunshine, wind, cold, or snow can all show up when you least expect it. The key to enjoying the ride is coming prepared, so we recommend dressing in layers and checking the forecast before you book and again the day before your adventure. Our tours head out no matter what the skies decide to do, so whether it’s rain, wind, or blue skies weather, the adventure is always on. If it is snowing outside, a judgment will be made to ensure the safety of our guests. If we have to cancel due to snow, a full refund will be issued.
We guide you to some of the most fascinating formations in Colorado. What you see might surprise you. Not everyone looks close enough. On our tours, we show you what most people walk right past.
Photography reveals what the naked eye can miss. Many formations become clearer when viewed through your phone or camera lens. Different times of day create natural shadows and highlights that bring out incredible detail. Cameras often capture contrast better than the human eye, which is why we recommend bringing your phone fully charged.
